Same‑day implants are appealing, but they are not the right choice for every tooth or every patient. Knowing what makes a good candidate helps set realistic expectations before you sit in the chair.
The Condition of the Socket
The single biggest factor is the bone surrounding the tooth being removed. For an immediate implant to be stable, that bone needs to be healthy and largely intact so the post has something solid to grip right away.
When a tooth has broken off at the gum line or been lost to significant infection, the surrounding bone is often compromised. In those cases we usually clean and heal the site first, then place the implant once the foundation is rebuilt.
Infection and Gum Health
Active infection is the main reason we hold off on same‑day placement. Putting an implant into an infected socket lowers the odds it will fuse properly, so we clear the infection before proceeding.
Healthy gums matter too, since they frame the final crown and protect the implant beneath. We assess both at your consultation, and if anything needs attention first, we address it before scheduling surgery.
Your Health and Timeline
As with any implant, general health and habits shape the plan. Good healing capacity gives the immediate implant the best chance, so we review medications, conditions, and smoking during the assessment.
If you are a candidate, same‑day placement can be a wonderful shortcut. If you are not, that is not a setback, only a sign that a staged approach will serve you better. Our Vancouver team will tell you honestly which path fits your mouth.
