A visual exam tells us a great deal, but a lot of the mouth is simply out of sight. Dental X‑rays fill in the parts we cannot see with the eye alone.
Seeing The Hidden Areas
Much of what matters in dentistry happens where it is hard to look, such as between teeth, below the gumline, and inside the bone. X‑rays let us see these areas clearly so nothing important goes unnoticed.
Decay that starts between two teeth, for example, can be invisible during a normal exam. An X‑ray reveals it while it is still small and simple to address.
Catching Problems Early
Beyond cavities, X‑rays help us spot issues with tooth roots, bone levels, and developing teeth. Seeing these early means we can plan care thoughtfully rather than reacting to an emergency later.
For growing children and teens, imaging also helps us track how teeth are coming in. This lets us guide things gently and catch concerns before they become larger.
A Tool, Not A Routine Reflex
We take X‑rays when they add real value to your care, not just out of habit. The goal is always to get the information we need to keep you healthy while keeping imaging appropriate for you.
At Cambie Dental we explain why an X‑ray is helpful whenever we recommend one. You should always understand the reason behind any step in your care.
